BBC Project North

A major innovation has been the BBC North Recruitment solution which went live in February 2010. 1,500 roles will move from London to the BBC North location at Salford Quays, from April 2011. To meet the resourcing challenge Capita have implemented a truly original and innovative candidate experience incorporating a new multi-media jobs website, innovative talent pooling approach, ‘keep warm’ materials for individuals in the pool including personalized e-mails updating on campaign progress and regular updated to the website, and bespoke online video assessment modules. The BBC is adopting this process for both internal BBC staff interested in a new role at Salford Quays and external candidates.

We have worked closely with the BBC’s retained Resourcing Team and key BBC North stakeholders. This more cost effective recruitment campaign means less duplication, greater economies of scale, wider audience reach and enhanced candidate experience, as candidates only need to apply once to be considered for all opportunities at BBC North. Based on analysis across BBC, the average £7k cost per hire will reduce by up to 70%, time to hire will reduce by up to 335. There will be less hiring manager effort as the recruitment team will take more of the load. Using the latest online tools and techniques to assess behaviours and skills prior to interview will also ensure more rigourous assessments for improved candidate quality working to reduce attrition rates. There is an increased presence and improved perception of BBC employer brand in the North West and on-demand talent pools with pre-assessed high quality individuals means we are ready to meet the BBC North resourcing demands.
